The History Of Cajon Drums

Cajon is a percussion instrument like a drum box from Peru and has been widely used since the 18th century. The meaning of the word "CAJON" itself is "box", taken from SPANYOL language. This musical instrument initially played by workers in ports and slaves. This musical instrument as a form of resistance, because at that time the Spanish Colonial Government did not give an opportunity to slaves and harass workers harbor to be able to enjoy Music. Finally, these workers make their own music by pounding the box (Cajon) fish. The tone generated by the wasps of Cajon Box Instrument was then accompanied them singing.

The shape is like a speaker box, a six-sided front wooden box as a sound producer in which a bass guitar snare is given to produce a hit hat-like sound, an airborne inlet portion of the sound resonance hall. How to play, a player sitting on a Cajon and pounding his palm with some technique from which it can be generated like a drum sound like snare sound, bass drum, rim click, and sound hit hat. Good Cajon material is usually of maple wood.

Cajon used many Afro Peruvian music instruments-most since the 18th century.
Central and African American slaves of origin in the Americas, especially Peru are regarded as the source of Cajon drums, although these instruments often occur in musical performances across America. In the century of 20th, Cajon had been well known in the society of Cuba. In that time, Cajon was closely associated with an Afro-Cuban style drum dance song which was known as rumba, while in Peru it was associated with the Afro-Peruvian genre.

Cajon Drum is most likely developed in coastal Peru in the early 19th or early 19th century. The instrument reached its peak of popularity in 1850, and by the end of the 19th century, Cajon players were experimenting with instrument design by bending several boards in Cajon to change the instrument pattern of the sound vibrations.

There are two theories of complementary origin for the instrument based on the reality that Cajon was first created by musicians during the colonialism of Spaniards in the land of Peru. It is possible that the drum is a direct descendant of a plurality of western and central American musical instruments, notably Angola, and the Antilles. Instruments adopted by Peruvian slaves from their Spanish shipping crates. In port cities like Matanzas, Cuba-their fish use the delivery of cod kart. Elsewhere, small drawers became instruments.

Another theory holds that box slaves were only used as musical instruments to counter the contemporary Spanish colonial ban on music in most parts of Africa. In this way, Cajon can easily disguise as a chair or bench, thus avoiding identification as a musical instrument. In all likelihood, it is a combination of factors - African origin and Spanish suppression of slave music - leading to Cajon's creation.

In contemporary times, this tool became an integral part of the Peruvian hand drum and Cuban music. In the 1970s, Peruvian composers and Cajon master Castro Soto gave Cajon a reward for a Spanish guitarist whose name was Paco de Lucía during a visit to Peru. De Lucía loved this musical instrument so much because of its uniqueness and melodious sound. Before leaving, he then brought Cajon with himself. Later, he started to introduce Cajon to flamenco music.

Today, the Cajon drum instrument is becoming known in many countries and is often used in acoustic music performances. In Indonesia, this musical instrument "boom" is used around 2010. Now, this musical instrument we often encounter in cafes, malls and some music on television. This instrument, many imported from the country of origin and Spain.
